In this video, the viewer learns of the Ghost Dance, and the dedication the Big Foot Ban had towards the dance. The video also included a first hand account of a survivor of Wounded Knee, one survivor included Dewey Beard, whom passed his story down through generations of his family. The video also talks about the rebellion the natives are still having against the United States on the controversy of Wounded Knee. These Native Americans believe that there should be a memorial or cash compensation, but the Natives also believe they should not assimilate to the American culture, or else they are accepting defeat.
The Wounded Knee Massacre was the final battle in the Native American Wars. After continuous surrender by
chief Big Foot and the Sioux Indians, they were captured by the United States 7th calvary. Forced to give up their weapons, the natives began to squirm, angered by their treatment. Thus a quarrel broke out, and shots were fired on all the natives, men, women, and children. This harsh treatment and bloody massacre can be related to the westward expansion of America in the late 1800's. Many have written about this topic including "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee," by Dee Brown, another book included "Wounded Knee" by Heather Richardson. These novels amongst many others provide multiple view points of the massacre, as well as explaining the event before and after the massacre.
